Corona Rules Villa Hügel
Wearing a medical mask (FFP2, alternatively surgical mask) is compulsory in the interior rooms of Villa Hügel!
Due to a marathon event at Lake Baldeney, we recommend that you access Villa Hügel via the “Haraldstraße” entrance.
Mon, 3 Oct. – Villa Hügel and park open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Thu, 13 Oct. – Sat, 15 Oct. – Villa Hügel Great House closed, Krupp Historical Exhibition open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fri, 21 Oct. – Grand House Villa Hügel closes at 5 p.m., Krupp Historical Exhibition open until 6 p.m.
Sat, 22 Oct. – Villa Hügel Great House closes at 5 p.m., Krupp Historical Exhibition open until 6 p.m.
Tue, 1 Nov. – Villa Hügel and park open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Important information for your visit

The opening of the Villa Hügel estate is subject to strict conditions, which are regularly reviewed and revised.

You would like to visit Villa Hügel and / or take part in one of the private or public guided tours? From 3 April 2022, only the wearing of a medical mouth-nose protection (FFP2 / surgical mask) is mandatory.

The owner of Villa Hügel is aware of the responsible behaviour of its visitors. Since the health and safety of all visitors and staff have top priority, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation refers to the rules that apply as a supplement to the parking and house rules:

At home
  • Booking an admission ticket for the buildings is desirable. (to the ticket shop)
  • Please only come to Villa Hügel if you are feeling well. For their own safety and for the benefit of all, we ask acutely ill persons to refrain from visiting.
  • It is compulsory to wear medical mouth/nose coverings in the buildings from the age of 6. Please bring your own mouth-nose protection. You are not permitted to enter the buildings without appropriate mouth protection.
3G rule and exceptions

Proof of a negative rapid test, fully completed vaccination or survived Covid 19 disease is not required for individual visits to the park.

Discontinuation of the 2G/3G rule for access to the Villa Hügel buildings and participation in private and public tours.

Admission ticket / Ticket shop

Booking an admission ticket to visit Villa Hügel is requested. Should the admission rules change, we will inform you via the contact data stored there. The deletion of this data is possible at any time. Please simply send us an email to

Admission is charged separately in cash at the park entrance on the day of the visit.


Admission & Personal Restrictions
  • A maximum permitted number of visitors has been set for the park and the buildings. Waiting times should be planned.
Distance rules & Routing
  • Keep to the prescribed routing, marked by tensators and signage. The guidance system at neuralgic points ensures that direct, oncoming contact between visitors is avoided.
  • Maintain a distance of at least 1.5 to 2 metres from other people.
  • Wait at narrow passages and stairs until the area is clear again. Keep to the right if possible.
  • Do not enter smaller rooms until the minimum safety distance of 1.5 to 2 metres can be maintained.
  • In the interest of all other visitors, please do not linger too long in front of individual exhibits.
  • It is not permitted to form groups with other museum visitors.

A sufficient number of parking spaces as well as two designated disabled parking spaces for visitors with a disability pass are available on the grounds of Villa Hügel.

S 6 from Essen Hbf or Köln-Worringen to station “Essen-Hügel”, then follow the signs

Entry & Payment
  • The entrance fee is 5,00 Euro per person. Children under 14 years are free.
  • The entrance fee is to be paid in cash at the park entrance. Please wear your medical mouth and nose protection when paying. Please pay as appropriately as possible.
  • EC/credit card payment is not possible.
  • The ticket remains valid during your stay on the premises. After leaving the premises, the validity expires.


  • Jackets, coats, umbrellas, bags can be left at your own risk at a small self-service cloakroom in the entrance area. The space is limited!
  • If possible, do not arrive with large luggage or leave it in the boot of your vehicle.
  • A guarded cloakroom is not available for reasons of hygiene.
COVID-19 tracking

Currently, you are not required to submit your contact information. On a voluntary basis, you are welcome to submit our visitor data collection form for COVID-19 tracking. You can find it in the download area of our website.

The forms will be kept for 4 weeks and then destroyed in accordance with data protection regulations.


The use of the lifts is reserved for visitors with restricted mobility, subject to compliance with the hygiene rules.

Allow passengers to exit the elevator before Boarding.

Hygiene measures
  • Please use the contactless disinfection dispensers in the entrance area for hand disinfection.
  • Frequently touched surfaces in public areas as well as the sanitary facilities are cleaned and disinfected several times a day.
  • It is assumed that the cough and sneeze label is observed without exception. Please wash your hands regularly.
  • Please do not use liquid disinfectants in the building (exception: in the WC area).
Mouth and nose protection obligatory
  • In the houses of Villa Hügel a medical mouth and nose cover is mandatory. Please bring your own mouth and nose protector.
  • Children over 6 years of age must wear a mouth guard.
  • Without an appropriate mouth and nose cover the building may not be entered.
  • Please wear your mouth and nose protection when paying at the park entrance.
Opening hours

The opening hours for park and houses have been adjusted:

    • Park: Tuesdays to Sundays from 9.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
    • Big house: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • The Small House with the Krupp Historical Exhibition will remain closed for the time being.
Seating facilities

Please note that only limited seating is available in the main building and the Krupp Historical Exhibition.
